The rumour that I've been telling anyone that would listen for the last few months has been made official.
Legendary rock revolutionaries Midnight Oil are to be inducted into the 2006 Australian Recording Industry's Hall Of Fame.
After announcing the induction of the Divinyls, Icehouse, Daddy Cool, Lobby Loyde, Rose Tattoo and Helen Reddy, ARIA round out their Hall Of Fame for 2006 with the godfathers of socially aware Australian rock Midnight Oil.
Led by the impassioned vocals and freakish onstage presence of Peter Garrett, and the fiery hooks of Rob Hirst, Midnight Oil were a pub rock phenomenon that evolved into what was, throughout the 1980s, Australia’s conscience.

They explored issues that most acts didn’t dare touch, including aboriginal land rights, the environment, war, and human rights.
Not merely an activist outfit, their stirring anthems across fourteen albums propelled them to international stardom and sales of over 12 million worldwide.
By the time Garrett left in 2002 to pursue his political career, Midnight Oil were regarded as one of the finest rock exports Australia has ever produced and the rousing reception for their reunion show at 2005’s WaveAid was testament to their impact.

To mark the occasion, The band are releasing a new compilation album full of some of their faster tunes called
Flat Chat.
