Solo Album for Jim Moginie

By Paul Cashmere

Midnight Oil’s Jim Moginie will release his first ever solo album in September.
The album ‘Alas Folkoric’ was co-produced by Moginie, with Wayne Connolly and Brent Clark and recorded in his own studio which he calls Mums.

Moginie has written everything on the album, including one collaboration with Something for Kate’s Paul Dempsey.
Midnight Oil’s Rob Hirst and Martin Rotsey guest on some of the tracks.

In a statement, Jim says-
“The album kicked into gear after the Oils broke up late in 2002 . Some lost songs were rediscovered and new ones came along. The themes of the songs aren’t all disaffected 70’s leftie agitprop although inevitably some of that is in there. There’s a gentler, more folkloric nature to what I do here, one that didn’t really fit into Midnight Oil’s sound. It’s all about the songs for me but I love also mucking around with sounds and the potential of the recording studio on this record and working with other artists. It feels like a joyous thing of beauty to get this thing out of my system and onto a CD, and I’m over the moon to be on a label with such great artists and bands. I’ve done lots of solo gigs in the interim, and I’ve been doing my frontman moves in front of the mirror”.

‘Alas Folkoric’ will be released on September 16th.
