Support The Long Walk

Support The Long Walk In November 2004 Aboriginal former Essendon champion and AFL legend Michael Long, and prominent Aboriginal Elders, embarked on an historic and remarkable journey, walking from Melbourne to Canberra to meet with Prime Minister John Howard. It was a statement of strength, leadership and inspiration. It was a step towards uniting all Australians.

The support from Indigenous and non-Indigenous people was overwhelming. Most wished they could have walked with him. Now everyone has the opportunity to join Michael in The Long Walk 2005 on Sunday 4 December at Princes Park, Carlton, Victoria.

Help bring about change. Walk with thousands of non-Indigenous and Indigenous Australians to improve everyone’s way of life.

Take the first step and REGISTER NOW!
http://www.thelongwalk.com.au/

All Funds raised by The Long Walk will go to the Sir Douglas Nicholls Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership.

WHY WALK?

By simply registering and walking you can help bring about change.
Your financial contribution will support great Indigenous leaders and enable countless Australians to benefit from their work.

Funds raised by The Long Walk 2005 will go to the Sir Douglas Nicholls Fellowship for Indigenous Leadership. The Fellowship allows great Victorian Indigenous leaders to maintain programs for their communities and advocate for Indigenous issues across Australia. Fellowships will be awarded to leaders across a variety of areas, and can include salary contributions, study grants, travel, or specific project needs.

The first Fellowship was awarded to Yorta Yorta Elder, Paul Briggs. Sir Douglas Nicholls, Paul Briggs and Michael Long have all provided pathways for Aboriginal people to help themselves and their broader communities. They have provided much needed pathways for non-Indigenous Australians to learn from Indigenous culture and heritage. Many of the positive social changes already achieved by current Sir Douglas Nicholls Fellow Paul Briggs have helped thousands of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

11/11. Another thing to remember.

November 11 is Remembrance Day. The day we remember the poor buggers that went off to war and died all those years ago. We also remember it's the day our Prime Minister, Gough Whitlam got the sack thirty years ago.
Now we remember it as the day the Australian worker lost most of his rights.

One of the blogs I read daily is LeftVegDrunk. He says it perfectly-

Johnny and his good old boys have done it, and they had the
maturity to blow kisses at the opposition as they gagged debate
on the IR reform bill. What a despicable display.
Here's how ACTU President Sharon Burrows described the outcome.
"The sad irony is the Government could find $55 million
to promote their own propaganda over the last few weeks
and they could only find four days to listen to debate about
concerns for the lives of working people... Living
standards, Australian lifestyles, family life, all up in smoke."
Now I can go out and protest on Tuesday, shouting my
support for workers' rights at the top of my lungs, safe in
the knowledge that it won't make any difference at all.

I've Got Diva Fever

I put $15 on her to win.

I've Got Diva FeverMAKYBE Diva created Melbourne Cup history today by winning Australia's greatest race for the third consecutive time. On A Jeune was second and Xcellent third.

She was halfway down the field mid-way through the race and muscled out other runners as she approached the finish line. Her jockey, Glen Boss, was choked with emotion after the race. "What a mare," he said, through tears.

Trainer Lee Freedman, who has shied away with comparisons to between Diva and the legendary Phar Lap in the run-up to today's race, said: "I don't want to talk down Phar Lap. But he never won three Melbourne Cups."
