ARIA blitz for Missy
First time ARIA winners Missy Higgins and Ben Lee stole the show at the 2005 ARIA Awards ceremony at the Sydney SuperDome overnight.
Higgins was crowned ARIA Awards princess. "Give me a crown and I'll be a princess," said Higgins, 22, who snagged five awards, including album of the year, at the music industry's premier event. Higgins, whose plaintive pop and anti-image made her a home-grown star, took honours for best breakthrough artist, highest-selling album, best pop release and the trophy she wanted most, female artist of the year.
Comeback kid Ben Lee, once the industry's punching bag, took three awards, including best male artist and best independent release. His catchy pop hit Catch My Disease was named single of the year.
Once blacklisted for claiming he was the best songwriter in the country, Lee's latest album Awake Is The New Sleep went a long way in backing those infamous words. Lee acknowledged he had changed. "I have become mature, conservative, and I get nominated for awards," he laughed.
But the awards night in Sydney belonged to Missy Higgins. And she was ready for it. She opted out of her jeans and T-shirt image for indie designer glamour, wearing a cherry red dress by Mousecat Berlin, and black high heel shoes.
"This is the pinnacle so far," Higgins said, although she admitted to feeling nervous, but most of that worry was caused by the red carpet. "I'll need a glass of champagne after this walk," Higgins said, laughing.
For some reason David "The Hoff" Hasslehoff was invited to present the two major awards, and he was given the respect (or lack there of) that he deserves by the two winners Ben and Missy
Perth rockers Eskimo Joe were named best group.
Grinspoon's album Thrills Kills And Sunday Pills won best rock album.
Rocker Jimmy Barnes was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
The Wiggles' record Live Hot Potatoes won best children's album.
Keith Urban's Be Here won best country album.

But, far and away the shows highlight for me was the emotional tribute to Paul Hester by his friend and former Split Enz / Crowded House bandmate Neil Finn.

How can the worst female and male singer for australia win our big awards this is a joke. Missy Higgins is shit she doesnt sing she just says the words with music playin in the backround, and as for ben lee he looks like he was from a cartoon, perhaps he is roger ramjets son.
p.s i would rather go and see franks zappa in concert they are that bad.

I'd rather go see Frank Zappa live than any other artist or band on the planet, so naturally Missy H and Ben Lee are placed below him.
Don't forget that the ARIA's are a popularity poll, Zappa would never win an ARIA so that makes you and me outsiders, but from a different perspective.

The ARIA awards are not a mere popularity poll, Voters are members of the industry.
The only popularity award on the night is the "channel V Oz artist of the year"
Which was won by Anthony Calliea. That show the cred. of that award

Popular amongst the voting members? ARIA is the industry, therefore, sales are their barometer.
Just have a look at the voters: executives, producers, salesmen, etc.
P.S. Is Craig Mr Rev?
