ARIA blitz for Missy
First time ARIA winners Missy Higgins and Ben Lee stole the show at the 2005 ARIA Awards ceremony at the Sydney SuperDome overnight.
Higgins was crowned ARIA Awards princess. "Give me a crown and I'll be a princess," said Higgins, 22, who snagged five awards, including album of the year, at the music industry's premier event. Higgins, whose plaintive pop and anti-image made her a home-grown star, took honours for best breakthrough artist, highest-selling album, best pop release and the trophy she wanted most, female artist of the year.
Comeback kid Ben Lee, once the industry's punching bag, took three awards, including best male artist and best independent release. His catchy pop hit Catch My Disease was named single of the year.
Once blacklisted for claiming he was the best songwriter in the country, Lee's latest album Awake Is The New Sleep went a long way in backing those infamous words. Lee acknowledged he had changed. "I have become mature, conservative, and I get nominated for awards," he laughed.
But the awards night in Sydney belonged to Missy Higgins. And she was ready for it. She opted out of her jeans and T-shirt image for indie designer glamour, wearing a cherry red dress by Mousecat Berlin, and black high heel shoes.
"This is the pinnacle so far," Higgins said, although she admitted to feeling nervous, but most of that worry was caused by the red carpet. "I'll need a glass of champagne after this walk," Higgins said, laughing.
For some reason David "The Hoff" Hasslehoff was invited to present the two major awards, and he was given the respect (or lack there of) that he deserves by the two winners Ben and Missy
Perth rockers Eskimo Joe were named best group.
Grinspoon's album Thrills Kills And Sunday Pills won best rock album.
Rocker Jimmy Barnes was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
The Wiggles' record Live Hot Potatoes won best children's album.
Keith Urban's Be Here won best country album.

But, far and away the shows highlight for me was the emotional tribute to Paul Hester by his friend and former Split Enz / Crowded House bandmate Neil Finn.

Co-captains most worthy: Sheedy
Australian coach Kevin Sheedy says he was unable to separate Andrew McLeod and Chris Johnson for the right to captain the home side in the upcoming Foster's International Rules series against Ireland, saying both deserved to lead their country.
The Aboriginal pair became the first-ever indigenous AFL players to captain Australia after the 27-strong playing group was unable to split the veteran pair when Sheedy polled the players for their thoughts on the captaincy issue.
With both players aged 29, Sheedy said it was possible that neither would again get the chance to lead Australia had they not been appointed for the upcoming series with McLeod to captain the team in the first Test in Perth while Johnson will captain the team in the second Test in Melbourne.

It's complely free to use and there is no download.
All you have to do is register, and that takes less than three minutes.
If you decide to play, you are able to search for other users and play against them.
Just between you and me, my username is stu217.
So look for me and we can play a hand or two.
There is no real money involved.

This Jacko, Not So Wacko.

That's why on his most recent tour of the US and Canada, Johnson took extra precautions to ensure his travels were as environmentally friendly as possible. Teaming up with 1% For The Planet Alliance, Jack Johnson and his tour buddies did the following:
Amazingly, Johnson's generosity does not end there. He donated $5,000 from each show between August 31st and September 17th to the American Red Cross in aid of the victims of Hurricane Katrina, totalling $65,000. As well as $57,835 raised from fans and ticket auctions, Johnson donated over $122,835 to the Hurricane Katrina relieve.

Finally, Tech heads making something useful.
Fans of non-stop drinking may soon be able to cut down on time wasted ordering refills, thanks to a beer mat that can tell when a glass is empty.
The coaster, fitted with sensors, measures the weight of the beer and sends a signal behind the bar when it's time for a refill.
Anxious drinkers can also attract the attention of staff by waving the plastic mat, thanks to a motion sensor.
It was invented by students Matthias Hahnen and Robert Doerr for a project at the University of Saarbruecken in southwest Germany.
The device has attracted the attention of beer vendors in North America, including a leading Canadian brewer, according to Michael Schmitz, one of the supervisors of the project.
"They wanted to know if they could use it or make it themselves," he said. "The prototype cost about 84 euros ($158 Aust.) to make one but if mass produced, it could be done for around 10 euros."

Nothing But A Fucking Bunch of Cowards!!
Can you tell me who wins in this situation?
It's certainly not the Balinese people who need the Australian, English and American tourists to survive.
It doesn't take any guts to strap a bomb to your body and press a button while screaming some shit about Allah.
If these pricks want to die so much, I'm sure there's millions of people around the place that will gladly help them get their wish. (With a cricket bat.)

Her throat has only ever been good for one thing, and it ain't singing.
Perhaps one of the more unusual tracks to make the album is a duet featuring the original Adams and fellow Canadian Pamela Anderson. Pammy will be replacing Melanie C on the hit single "When You're Gone" - guess poor old Sporty Spice ain't cool enough anymore.
